It looks like Valve may finally be getting a game together to showcase its next-gen game engine, known only as Source 2. In a recent tour of Valve’s Seattle-based office, some members of Reddit managed to take pictures of Valve’s internal changelog with references to Left 4 Dead 3 as well as Source 2.

The fact that the company has been working on a new iteration of the Source engine comes as no surprise, since studio boss Gabe Newell had confirmed it back in November last year. Newell told members of popular image board 4chan: “We’ve been working on Valve’s new engine stuff for a while, we’re probably just waiting for a game to roll it out with.”

Always the clowns that get you

Imagine this guy in an even better graphics engine!

References to Left 4 Dead 3 had been revealed back in June when Valve news website ValveTime found evidence of some of the internal projects at the company, which included references to Half-Life 3 and Left 4 Dead 3.

The evidence had been discovered from a mailing list that was found in project management and bug tracking software Jira. Valve apparently had to react to an issue with Jira, which then left a short window where Valve’s internal tickets were publically accessible. Shortly after this, the company shut down the access to its Jira database.

Few companies in the gaming world are followed as closely as Valve. This may be largely because of its utter silence on the sequel to Half-Life 2: Episode 2, which is based on the Source Engine. Many speculate and talk about rumours of the fabled next iteration of the game. Some believe it will be Half-Life 2: Episode 3 while others believe it will be Half-Life 3. If Valve were to follow its regular pattern, a supposed Half-Life 3 would showcase the capabilities of the engine.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
