Leaked LeEco LEX720 shows a lot in common with the upcoming Apple iPhone 7 Plus

Chinese internet conglomerate LeEco already has its Le Max 2 flagship smartphone out for sale in India. It packs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset and a hefty 6GB of RAM, and while many may think of it as the best combination of hardware and software an Android fan can think of, think again, cos there’s something bigger in the pipeline. A recent leak reported by GizmoChina has revealed photographs of a prototype LeEco LEX720, a smartphone that has been surfacing time and again in benchmarks and rumours. While this is not the first time  an image of the LEX720 has surfaced online, the new images sure give us a better idea of what it looks like. [caption id=“attachment_325548” align=“aligncenter” width=“375”]  Image: Weibo @KJuma[/caption] A Weibo user seems to have got his hands on a LEX720, and the pictures finally confirm that it is the dual camera smartphone from LeEco we have been looking for. While LeEco fans will be happy to see that the company is working on a dual lens camera smartphone, we somehow cannot digest the design, that looks like a mix of a Le Max 2 with the back of the yet unannounced Apple iPhone 7 Plus . [caption id=“attachment_325546” align=“aligncenter” width=“375”]  Image: Weibo @KJuma[/caption] If the dual lens set up with the curved dual LED flash (resembles a smile) does not the creep you out, the design that seems to borrow heavily from the Apple iPhone 7 Plus surely will. The camera module like LeEco’s recently launched smartphone range protrudes from the rest of the back cover, that now appears to me made out of a single piece of metal. This is an improvement over the existing Le Max 2 that is made up of a mix of plastic inserts combined with plastic caps at the top and the bottom end, which did not make for a seamless feel.  The thick bands run towards the edges of the top and bottom end, look like copy of the iPhone 7 Plus, and seem to deliver a rounded appearance that is supposed to curve from the back and fade into the 2.5D glass screen on the front. Overall, the appearance will be more rounded than the current Le Max 2 model and may look similar to Meizu’s recently launched Pro 6 smartphone. Coming to the front, the capacitive button setup has changed as well. The Home button is no more, with a LeEco Live button replacing it. Expect some software changes in LeEco’s EUI for this smartphone, as the current layout shows the LeEco Live button in place of what would normally be the app drawer on Android devices. While none of the specifications can be confirmed, an AnTuTu benchmark listing did leak out in the past hinting at a Qualcomm Snapdragon 823 chipset paired with 4GB RAM and 32GB ROM. As per the listing, there is a 8MP camera on the front and a 16MP unit on the back. However, we do know that Samsung will be providing the camera hardware for the smartphone. The dual lens camera module is also expected to be used by another Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi. Recently, a metal-clad Xiaomi smartphone leaked out as well. But even with the teasers out and invites set for 27 July, it isn't clear whether this would be a Redmi Note 4 or a Mi Note 2.
