Famed tipster Evan Blass has put out a post on VentureBeat that gives us a complete low down about Huawei’s upcoming camera smartphone tagged as the P9. The smartphone is indeed the successor to the now ageing Honor 6 Plus that surprised many with its imaging performance, thanks to its bionic parallel dual-lens camera. [caption id=“attachment_302252” align=“aligncenter” width=“300”] Image: VentureBeat[/caption] Looking at the leaked images, we see a similar set up for the camera, but the design has improved drastically, for the better. We have a glass front with slimmer bezels on the sides but abnormally large bezels on the top and bottom. This is odd because the navigation bar is on screen and does not reside on the bottom bezel as capacitive buttons. [caption id=“attachment_302254” align=“aligncenter” width=“300”] Image: VentureBeat[/caption] The back shows off the all-metal build and this is where we notice the dual camera set up on the top, along with a dual tone LED flash and laser focus module below it, all enclosed inside a glass insert. Below the camera sits the fingerprint reader and at the bottom we also find a USB Type-C connector. Confirming the specs, Blass states that the individual that allowed him to get a short hands-on, also revealed that Huawei has budget friendly P9 Lite, a P9 Max (or Plus) and even a premium model that packs in some premium hardware as well. Talking about hardware, we are now aware that the premium version of the P9 will sport Huawei’s own HiSilicon-made Kirin 955 SoC with 4GB of RAM. The regular P9 is expected to pack in Kirin 950, Mali-T880 GPU and 3GB of RAM. The standard P9 is expected to feature 32GB of storage while the premium model will feature 64GB and 128GB of internal storage. The camera is expected to pack in two 12MP sensors with Leica optics. Both of the P9 models will feature Android 6.0 Marshmallow and the standard model is expected to sport a 3,900 mAh battery.
