Leaked benchmark shows Galaxy Note II with a 1.6GHz quad-core processor

Reports of the second generation Galaxy Note appear to be gaining a lot of momentum. It seems that Samsung wants to thwart competition from Apple’s iPhone 5 by launching a device apart from the Galaxy S III. The latest report comes via PhoneArena, which has received a screenshot of what appears to be the Galaxy Note II being given the GLBenchmark treatment. From this benchmark, it appears that the device codenamed GT-N7100 features a quad-core processor clocked at 1.6 GHz.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

The Samsung Galaxy Note was codenamed GT-N7000, so in all likelihood the GT-N7100 would be the Galaxy Note II. The report goes on to state, “The GLEnvironment and System Info tabs reveal an Exynos 4412 processor with Mali-400 graphics, just like the kit in the Samsung Galaxy S III, so if this GT-7100 is indeed the Note II, it won’t be a Cortex-A15 endeavor. Makes perfect sense that Samsung will be willing to use the same Exynos, and keep the Cortex-A15 surprises for next year’s generation and/or its future tablets, considering there is nothing overshadowing its Cortex-A9 out there right now, and the die shrink has already occurred.”

Leaked GLBenchmark spills some details

Leaked GLBenchmark spills some beans

Commenting on the processor of the GT-7100, the report notes that Samsung may overclock the Exynos 4412 in the Note II that will be commercially available in order to boost the handset’s performance. The website states, “Indeed, the System Info tab shows 1.6GHz maximum frequency, whereas the quad-core Exynos in the S III is clocked at 1.4GHz, hence the boost in the GT-N7100 performance.”

Another bit of information revealed through the benchmark is that the 5.5-inch screen sports a resolution of 1280 x 800 and it runs on the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. The next generation Galaxy Note is expected to feature the Pen-tile matrix display instead of the RGB variant used in the S II. Apart from the screen size, the design is said to be heavily inspired from the Galaxy S III. So we can expect a similar form factor with heavily rounded edges and a pebble-like design. If the Note 2 is indeed modeled around the S III, there is a good chance that the phone will get some or all of the ‘S’ features such as S Beam, Smart Stay eye tracking, and Smart Voice.

Here is a quick look at what to expect from the device:

  • 5.5-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with a 1680 × 1050 resolution
  • 4G LTE, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, NFC
  • GPS, possibly with GLONASS and A-GPS support
  • Bluetooth, possiblly v4.0 with USB and hopefully USB-on-the-go
  • 13 megapixel AF/Touchfocus camera with full HD video recording and playback
  • A front facing camera for video calls and chats
  • Possibly a 64GB edition, along with 16GB and 32GB versions all with expandable support
  • MHL for AV out

This handset is expected to make its debut on August 30 at the IFA 2012 event.

Do share your thoughts on the leaked specifications of the Galaxy Note II in the comments.
