Lava has launched their new budget-friendly smartphone Iris 500 which is listed on their website at Rs 5,499. According to their website, the Lava Iris 500 has a 5-inch FVGA IPS display with a resolution at 480x854 pixels. It has a 1.3GHz dual-core processor paired with 512MB of RAM. There is no news on which chipset has been used as of now. The Iris 500 runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and comes with an inbuilt memory of 4GB. It can be further expanded to 32GB with microSD card. The smartphone sports a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash along with a 0.3MP front facing camera for those quick and simple selfies. In terms of connectivity, the Iris 500 offers GPRS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, micro-USB port and Bluetooth 4.0. Unfortunately, the Iris 500 does not have 3G support. The smartphone has an 1,800mAh capacity battery and has a dual SIM functionality. Recently, news broke out that Lava has become top feature phone company in the quarter ending September 2014 and the second largest company in the overall category (combining feature phones and smartphones) amongst the Indian handset makers as per the imports volume tracked by a leading independent market research firm Cybex Exim Solutions Pvt. Ltd. The company imported a total of 5.3 million feature phones in this time frame putting it at the top slot as compared to other Indian handset makers including Karbonn with 4.6 million and Micromax at 5 million shipments.
