A lot of reports have been doing the rounds about the next-generation Nexus 7. While Google hasn’t made anything official yet, the specifications seen on the specs sheet of the model are tantalising. The tablet model bears the label ME571K_PR1_SKU2, and prominently shows off the ASUS brand logo.

It can be assumed that the company will be releasing at least two versions of the Nexus 7 successor, namely a 16GB as well as a 32GB variant. It can also be assumed that Asus will release Wi-Fi only versions, as well as models with cellular data connections.

Apart from the earlier reported 7-inch LCD display, reports of the next-gen Nexus 7 sporting two cameras has also been reinforced. This time around, the company has put in a 1.2 megapixel camera in the front of the tablet, reportedly from Liteonmobile, and a 5 megapixel shooter, by Chicony, on the back. From the screenshots, it looks like the rear camera will be positioned around the same corner where the 3.5 mm headphone jack is placed.

Internally, the listed motherboards strongly points in the direction of a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. Earlier reports stated that the tablet could be powered by a Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor by Qualcomm. However, it is possible that there may be two versions of the prototype doing the rounds, keeping in mind that the model label sports the SKU2 tag.

Apart from the processor, there is also talk of the tablet coming with a massive 4GB of RAM, although earlier reports have stated that the tablet will most likely sport 2GB of RAM. In terms of storage, as mentioned earlier, the tablet will come with both 16GB and 32GB storage options.

From the screen shots, it looks like the tablet will be using the microUSB port to plug in the device, which is centred at the bottom edge of the tablet. The power button and the volume rocker will be positioned in the same way as they are found in the current Nexus 7.

The report also suggests that the Nexus 7 will come with dual-speakers, and the specs sheet refers to them as “upper” and “lower” speakers. The screenshots suggest that the speakers will be positioned on the rear of the tablet, with one being found near the USB port.

The tablet may also be coming with an Android 4.3 operating system running the show. While Google has announced an event where it is expected to announce Android 4.3 next week in San Francisco, it is entirely possible that the Nexus 7 will come with Android 4.2.2 first, with a quick update being rolled out soon after. A leaked inventory screen reveals that the next-gen Nexus 7 should come with a $229 (Rs 13,669 approx) price tag for the 16GB version and $269 (Rs 16,056 approx) price tag for the 32GB variant.
