Kotaku Indulges in Wanton Racism

The other day I was searching for my Xbox 360 HD VGA cable online (which sadly I haven’t still found) when I came across this article on gaming blog, Kotaku, regarding ICICI’s Xbox 360 offer. Now the article pokes a certain amount of fun at Indians which I can take in my stride, but the image used by Luke Plunkett (author of the article) denoting us Indians is downright disgusting, demeaning and appalling. To be brutally honest, I’m not the most patriotic person on the planet but this image was just low… even for Americans.

Stereotyping Indians isn’t a new thing; I’ve had people ask me if we have a constant electrical or water supply over here or if elephants are still the mode of transport and it really bugs me that most Westerners are so dumb and ignorant that the only things they associate with India are spicy curries, poor (and not to mention) half naked men and women, call centers and yes, my personal favorite, snake-charmers.

Keeping that in mind, we at Tech2 have decided to indulge in a bit of stereotyping ourselves and every time we have an article on Americans or their stupidity, it’ll be with this most excellent image:

Oh! and on that note, I’d like to end this article with a joke I made up in the morning today…

Q: What do you call an intelligent American?
A: A Myth.

Nash, as he prefers being called, woke up to the wonders of gaming rather late but don't bring that up around him. It's a touchy subject. A self confessed Battlefield veteran, Nash spent a good part of 2010 on the Steam Battlefield - with Bad Company (see what we did there?). He has a zero tolerance policy towards RTS games but is currently showing an interest by picking up and moving people - who he refers to as units - in the office. Thank God he's not that enthusiastic about Angry Birds or we'd be seeing women flying all over the place. Bali... Bali, put the receptionist down now. see more
