Kobo launches 4 eReaders in India, starting at Rs 7,999

Kobo, which is well-known for its eReading devices, has partnered with Crossword, WHSmith and electronics retailer Croma, to announce the launch of Kobo eReader devices in India.

The company has launched four devices: Kobo Touch Kobo Glo, Kobo Arc and Kobo Aura HD. All the devices have USB and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Kobo eReaders will be available from today retail stores across India through its partnerships with Crossword, WHSmith and Croma. Kobo’s eBookstore has nearly 4-million titles across 68 languages works top-selling Indian authors including Jhumpa Lahiri, Ramachandra Guha and others.

“India is in the early stages of what we believe is a 25-year transformation from print to digital reading. In partnership with some of the leading booksellers and retailers in the country, Kobo is poised to lead this transformation, by delivering a fully localized experience designed to meet the increased demand for digital content in India,“Wayne White, Executive Vice President & General Manager, Kobo, said in a press release.

As part of Diwali offer, Kobo is offering special Diwali pricing until November 3 on two Kobo devices.

Kobo Arc is available at Rs 9999 (regular price Rs 11,999) and Kobo Touch at Rs 6999 (regularly price Rs 7,999).

Free or discounted ebook offers will also be available with the purchase of Kobo devices or with the download of a Kobo app for a limited time.

The four devices launched in India are:

KOBO TOUCH: This is priced at Rs 7, 999 and has an anti-glare 6-inch Pearl E Ink touchscreen that Kobo claims offers the closest experience to reading print on paper and is easy on the eyes - even in bright sunlight.

KOBO GLO: This is priced at Rs 10,999 and comes with ComfortLight technology which allows peoples to read during day or night. The Kobo Glo uses E Ink technology, and its no-glare XGA high-resolution 6” E Ink screen.

KOBO ARC: This is priced at Rs 11,999 and is an Android tablet. It has a 7-inch screen with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean. It has a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM, and comes with 16 GB storage space.

KOBO Aura HD: This is priced at Rs 13,999. It has a 6.8-inch Pearl E Ink touchscreen with 256 pixels per inch. It also has a 1GHz processor and 4GB storage space.
