Key specs of Samsung's slimmest phones ever: Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3

Samsung has had a rough couple of months considering their **profits have declined** . Also, the company’s decision to slash prices for a few smartphones including the Samsung Galaxy S5 , has been quite surprising. This time, Samsung is offering us two new models which are completely metal. The price of the Galaxy A5 is Rs 25,500, while Galaxy A3 is priced at Rs 20,500. The device were announced in November last year and launched in the Indian market in the first week of January, 2015.   An impressive change from their previous plasticky editions which just might make users look twice at their devices. Will these two mid-range smartphones bring back the magic the company has lost out on? Have a look at the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 quick specifications. Design The Samsung Galaxy A5 and A3 are the company’s slimmest smartphones to date. Adopting a unibody metal body, in terms of thickness, the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 are 6.7mm and 6.9mm respectively. In comparison, the recently launched Oppo R5 is much slimmer at 4.85mm. The phone has flat sides and slim bezels. Both phones resemble the Samsung Galaxy Alpha. It comes dipped in five colors namely, Pearl White, Midnight Black, Platinum Silver, Soft Pink, Light Blue and Champagne Gold. Display The Samsung Galaxy A3 has a 4.5-inch qHD Super AMOLED display with 540 x 960 pixel resolution. This takes the pixel density to 245ppi, which is considerably low. The Galaxy A5 model comes with better specs: a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with 720 x 1280 pixel resolution and a pixel density that goes up to 294ppi. [caption id=“attachment_239787” align=“aligncenter” width=“640”] ![The Samsung Galaxy A5 ](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/samsung_001.jpg) It all depends on what price tag the company chooses for these devices[/caption]   OS The Samsung Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 both run on Android 4.4 KitKat. There is no news if these phones will receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. Camera The Galaxy A5 comes equipped with a 13MP Auto Focus camera with LED Flash. For selfie lovers, it also gets a 5MP front-facing camera. Some interesting traits include wide selfie, and beauty face features, among others. Video recording can be done on 1080p@30fps. On the other hand, the Galaxy A3 has a 8MP rear camera Auto Focus with LED Flash. It has a 5MP front facing camera as seen on the Galaxy A5. Processor The Samsung Galaxy A5 has a 1.2GHz quad-core processor paired with 2GB RAM. On the other hand, the Galaxy A3 also has a 1.2GHz quad-core processor but with 1GB RAM. There is no news whether Samsung will be using Snapdragon chipsets or will follow their own Exynos SoCs. As seen in the past, for India, it could most probably be the Exynos SoCs. Storage In terms of storage, both the smartphones have built-in 16GB storage that can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD cards. Battery The Galaxy A3 has a 1,900 mAh battery and the Galaxy A5 supports a 2,300 mAh battery. Both devices get their signature Ultra Saving Mode. Miscellaneous  Both smartphones are said to be made available in Dual-SIM variants. In terms of connectivity, one will find Bluetooth 4.0, NFC (in LTE models only), Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n) and A-GPS/GLONASS. Bottom Line Evidently, with these Galaxy devices, Samsung is trying to make its presence felt in the mid-range market. With dropping sales and increasing competition in the low to mid range segments, these devices could be the company’s trump cards to make a comeback.
