Karbonn announces 'S1 Titanium' quad-core smartphone

While we were thinking how Micromax wass trying to woo Indian audiences with its budget Canvas HD A116 phone with high-end features, another desi phone maker, Karbonn, steps in with its budget quad core phone. Karbonn’s official web page is flaunting its new smartphone dubbed S1 Titanium featuring superior specs like a 1.2GHz Quad Core processor and running on the latest flavour of Android – Jelly Bean. Micromax has priced the A116 at Rs. 14,999, and some reports suggest that Karbonn’s S1 Titanium will carry a price tag that reads Rs. 13,000. The A116 is slightly expensive than the S1 Titanium, as it carries a slightly superior spec sheet.

Sporting a 4.5-inch capacitive touchscreen with 540 x 960 resolution, the S1 Titanium is a dual SIM phone. This budget phone has a 5MP auto focus camera with LED Flash. On the storage front, it has 4GB internal memory expandable up to 32GB. The device appears to be good looking and quite handy, measuring 66 x 134.6 x 9.25 mm. It equips a 1600mAh battery that provides up to 200 hours of standby time and up to 4 hours of talk time. The connectivity options include support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The recently launched 3G-enabled Micromax A116, which was accused of trying to steal the thinder of Samsung’s Galaxy Grand, is powered by a MediaTek MT6589 1.2GHz quad core processor, with 1GB RAM. It also runs on the Android Jelly Bean 4.1 and comes equipped with a 2100mAh battery. It has a bigger 5-inch IPS display and also comes with an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and multiple camera settings such as night mode and 4X zoom. With Indian phone makers prepping to bring affordable smartphones with superior phones, consumers in a price sensitive market like ours are in a win-win situation.

Though there is no official word on the pricing of this Karbonn smartphone, the company is allowing users to book the device. It is expected to hit store shelves soon.
