Looks like the next Android update will include some major design changes as screenshots of revamped apps are starting to emerge.
We saw the new Gmail app earlier and it looked to be a major departure from the current look. Now, Geek has got its hands on a new build for the Calendar app codenamed Timely, which shows an entirely new UI and some new functionality.
For one, you will notice Google has replaced the grid look with a clear flat aesthetic, with ample splashes of colour to keep things from getting monotonous. The month view takes up the top half of the display and shows you any appointments below after you have chosen the date. The week view is a vertically scrolling list, with one or two events highlighted for each day.
Google is also adding a daily agenda feature and some more Google+integration for birthdays of your circles. Daily agenda will send you a consolidated email of all your appointments from the day, so you don’t have to check the app. These are both features that have been present on third-party apps for long.
Google’s internal name, Timely, is an interesting choice, given the company purchased Bitspin, the makers of an Android alarm app with the same name. So it could be that the calendar revamp is part of a bigger redesign effort that includes the clock and alarm functionality as well. We’ll have to wait till Google I/O to find out as that’s very likely the place where we’ll see the company unveil its new Android version.
