After designing a one-off Leica M camera for charity, Jony Ive has added a red coloured Mac Pro to the auction lot. The device has been modeled to look identical to the new Mac Pro Apple announced recently.

The cylindrical Mac Pro has been designed by Ive and Marc Newson for (RED), a charity started by U2 front-man Bono to fight HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. Of course, like all products designed for the charity, this one has an element of red too – unlike the subtle blob of colours on the Leica camera, the Mac Pro is completely coated in shiny candy red.

We’re still not sure what the difference between the mass-produced Mac Pros by Apple and the one made for (RED) is as far as the specifications are concerned, but don’t go coveting this one. While it may look a lot more desirable, the piece, which is to be auctioned off to raise money for the charity, is being listed as anywhere between $40,000 to $60,000.

The duo has designed a bunch of products that are to be sold for the (RED) auction at Sotheby’s on November 23. Amongst them is the Leica M camera that is being touted to be sold for $6 million. The camera features a laser machined aluminum body and an anodized aluminum outer shell. They also have on sale solid gold Apple EarPods, an aluminum desk, a “Valentine” portable typewriter, a grand piano and more for the (RED) charity as well.
