If you thought that 1 billion users was enough for Facebook, you’re so wrong. In order to lure even more users in to its network, Facebook has launched a new scheme for mobile users in India. Any new user in India who joins Facebook via mobile will get a talktime package of Rs 50. To get that special offer, you need to join Facebook via this special link: http://m.facebook.com/tt.
Oh and if you refer a friend, that too will get you another Rs 50 talktime.
The moves comes even as Facebook announced that it has 1 billion active users per month and that nearly 600 million users were logging in on the site via mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Most of the users - 81 percent - live outside of the US and Canada. The people joining now are young, with a median age of 22. This figure was 23 in 2010 and 26 in 2008 and 2007. Most of Facebook’s new users are from Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico and the United States.

India is currently the second largest country as far as Facebook’s user base is concerned. Facebook hit 50 million users in India last in July this year. This is pretty impressive especially as India has an Internet population of nearly 120 million people.
As mobile becomes the next big focus for Facebook, it’s not surprising that they are trying to lure more users via the medium. But as this post in The Next Web points out, Facebook’s scheme could backfire if scammers get their hands on this. It’s not exactly the world’s toughest job to acquire multiple SIMs in India.
