Yes, the wait for Jeep SUVs in India is finally over. According to the Financial Express, Jeep India, will be launching two models called the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Jeep Wrangler in India on 1 September. While the details about pricing are not out yet, we do know that these will be imported into the country as CBUs.
Coming to the mightier, Grand Cherokee, it will be offered in two variants namely, Summit and Limited. If you have been visiting the Jeep India website, you will also know that the SRT version of the Grand Cherokee has also been listed, and yes, it is coming to India as well.
Getting into the details, the standard Grand Cherokee will be powered by a 3.0L, EcoDiesel, turbocharged V6 diesel engine. The same produces 240 bhp of power and 570Nm torque. The V6 will be coupled to an 8-speed automatic gearbox with a paddle shifter and will send power to all 4 wheels with the Quadra-Trac II (Limited) or Quadra-Drive II (Summit) systems.
As for the powerful Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, it will be powered by a 6.4L HEMI V8 that produces 470bhp and it too comes attached to an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
Coming to the more humble offering from Jeep (that will find many buyers) called the Wrangler Unlimited, it is the 4-door version that will come to India.
It packs in a 2.8L CRD turbocharged, four-cylinder inline diesel unit that develops 197 hp and 460Nm of torque with an Command-Trac shift-on-Fly 4WD system. The Wrangler is expected to arrive with a 5-speed automatic transmission.
