Hours before iOS 7 hit iDevices, Apple released iTunes 11.1 with several new features that includes the much-awaited iTunes Radio amongst other improvements. The launch of iTunes 11.1 with iTunes Radio marks Apple’s official entry into the online radio market that is currently dominated by players like Pandora, Last.fm and Spotify.
iTunes Radio is going to be the most important feature Apple users will be looking at with the launch of the latest update of iTunes for Mac and PC. The service will let users tune in to curated stations set according to genres or artists or even let them create their own station. The more you use the service, the more personalised iTunes Radio will get for you. You will be able to use iTunes Radio on not just your iPhone but also iPod Touch, iPad, Mac and even PC and Apple TV.
The service will come with the usual Internet Radio actions like “Play More Like” and “Never Play This Song”, to give you control over the kind of music you listen to. iTunes Radio will sync on to all your devices as well. The service will contain an occasional advertisement in between songs, but if you’ve subscribed to iTunes Match, you will be able to enjoy an ad-free experience on iTunes Radio. The service will also pick up on all your music in your library and iCloud to make sure you have a more personalised experience. Since the service is tied in with iTunes, you will be able to purchase music that you like off the Radio.
Now with iTunes Radio!
iTunes 11.1 also brings along a new feature that will let you create custom stations out of your favourite podcasts. This station will keep updating automatically as and when new shows are added to the podcast. Not just the station, but your subscriptions and play position too will sync over iCloud to the Podcasts app.
The update also contains Genius Shuffle, a great new way of getting around listening to songs in your library. The feature will let iTunes play songs that go great together. Leave it to Genius Shuffle to suggest tracks. Apple has also enabled iTunes 11.1 with the ability to sync to your devices containing iOS 7. It will now be easier to sync all your data including movies, music and images with your device.
Like most iTunes updates, you will either be prompted to download the newest version of the software for your desktops when you fire it up, or you can simply head on to Apple’s website to download the update.
