IT Minister Prasad to meet Google chief Pichai, Premji next week to discuss Digital India

IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad is expected to hold meetings with the Google CEO, Sundar Pichai to further discuss the PM's Digital India initiatives.

Google top boss CEO, Sundar Pichai will be arriving in India next week. At the same time Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad is expected to hold meetings with the Google CEO to further discuss the PM's Digital India initiatives. Joining them in the same week will be Japanese tech giant, Hitachi’s Executive Officer Yutaka Saito and Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy and Wipro Chairman Azim Premji.

The IT Minister will be meeting CEO Sundar Pichai along with Hitachi's Yutaka Saito on 16 December.Post that the minister is expected to conduct talks with Murthy and Azim Premji on 18 December.

The Hindu reports that all of the above discussions will be mainly around the company’s plans for Digital India initiative and the way forward. Google may also be looking to push its Project Loon to take forward, the government's Digital India initiative.

Google's Project Loon basically works with a network of balloons travelling on the edge of space, designed to connect people in rural and remote areas. This is especially important in India as data coverage beyond major metropolitan areas is usually sparse. Also Project Loon is especially useful in areas that are struck with natural calamities allowing for a instant internet set ups that can get victims connected when they need it the most.
