Is LG Readying a Smartphone with a 720p Display?

Leaks certainly do point in that direction.

Earlier today, we told you about Toshiba getting ready to announce 720p displays for mobile phones. The first fallout to that development seems to have already been found, in the form of LG preparing a device with a 1280x720 screen.

According to UnwiredView, the LG P930 which was found in an XML file on LG’s website features a 720x1280 (720p) display, along with Google’s Android OS and HSDPA and HSUPA connectivity. It’s likely the device could be a tablet, but every device LG has released with model numbers starting with P has been a mobile phone. So this could very well be a smartphone with a great screen for media viewing purposes.


Furthermore, folks at Phandroid seem to think that this could possibly be the next version of Google’s Nexus branded smartphones,

something that Andy Rubin at I/O 2011 had said was incoming. While we certainly can’t comment on the likelihood of that, we definitely want to know more about this mystery phone, and soon.
