Bioshock is top on my list of the most anticipated games this year; the game’s developer Irrational Games is owned by Take-Two Interactive, who bought over the company last year to publish their games under their 2K Games label. To benefit of Irrational Games’ upcoming game’s popularity, Take-Two Interactive has just announced that they’re going to rename the two Irrational studios to 2K Boston and 2K Australia.
2K president Christopher Hartmann however, said that this move was made just to add Irrational as “a cornerstone of our game development family”. Irrational/2K Boston president Ken Levine agreed:
“We’re proud to be part of the 2K Games family and enjoy the new opportunities and artistic freedoms this strengthened relationship provides. The name change signifies our growing position as a central part of 2K Games, and we plan to ensure our future titles continue to set new standards of quality and innovation for the industry."
All said and done, I just hope that Irrational Games retains it individuality and continues to give us games like BioShock. We wish them luck and hope that they prosper under their new banner.
