Irrational Games announces BioShock Infinite PC system requirements

Thanks to being the developer for one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, all eyes are on Irrational Games to see what the company does with BioShock in its upcoming game—BioShock Infinite. The company has announced the system requirements for the PC version of the game, and has also elaborated on some of the differences between the PC and the console versions.

Here are the minimum requirements to play BioShock Infinite on the PC:

  • OS: Windows Vista Service Pack 2 32-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 DUO 2.4GHz / AMD Athlon X2 2.7GHz
  • Memory: 2GB
  • Hard Drive: 20GB free
  • Video Card: DirectX10 Compatible ATI Radeon HD 3870 / NVIDIA 8800 GT / Intel HD 3000 Integrated Graphics
  • Video Card Memory: 512MB
  • Sound Card: DirectX Compatible

The PC version seems to be the best

And here are the specifications that the company recommends players have to play the game:

  • OS: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 64-bit
  • Processor: Quad Core Processor
  • Memory: 4GB
  • Hard Drive: 30GB free
  • Video Card: DirectX11 Compatible, AMD Radeon HD 6950 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560
  • Video Card Memory: 1024MB
  • Sound Card: DirectX Compatible

The big difference between the PC and the console versions of the game is that the PC version gives players the ability to remap all the default action bindings, with both primary and alternate bindings being available simultaneously. The company has also made it a point to not include artificial mouse smoothing and has given the option to toggle mouse acceleration in the game’s options menu.

The game will also include a bunch of options for those who prefer controllers. There are three separate controller layouts—Default, Marksman and Retro—each of which supports different configuration options. The options let players tweak things like aim assist, sensitivity, vibration and inversion. It also includes options to switch around controls for left-handed people, or for those who prefer the N64 controller layout.

The company is also giving the PC version a lot of options on the graphics side of things. The game will have full widescreen support by implementing the “horizontal plus” system. In the system, the wider the resolution, the more players will be able to see on the screen. It will also support setups that have multiple monitor with support for AMD Eyefinity, Nvidia Surround and Matrox TripleHead2Go. There will also be separate controls for aspect ratio, resolution and display mode.

BioShock Infinite will also have options for DirectX 11. It gives access to contact-hardening dynamic shadows, diffusion depth of field, high definition ambient occlusion and optimised anti-aliasing. The company will be shipping the game with full-resolution textures out of the box. This is unlike Bethesda, for example, that released the full-resolution textures later as a mod.

Other additions to the PC version include support for all of Steam’s features, including Steam Cloud for save file and Big Picture Mode if players want to play the game on a TV instead of a typical monitor.

The game is coming out in March and it looks like the PC version will be the best.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
