iPhone 5 to possibly have 3.7-inch display/rectangular Home key

The rumors about the next generation iPhone are heating up considerably. The latest to make the headlines is that the upcoming handset dubbed the iPhone 5, will feature a slightly larger display than the current model i.e. the iPhone 4. While some of the previously conceived concept designs and rumors might have indicated a considerably larger display going into the 4-inch plus segment to compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S II or the LG Optimus 3D or 2X, the latest rumors seem to indicate a different approach.

Not quite what we expected

According to 9to5mac.com, it’s possible that Apple might be upping the iPhone’s display only by a tiny margin up to 3.7-inches. An icon of a possible next gen Apple device was also posted on Apple’s Photo Stream (Beta) and if we’re to take that as any indication of what the next gen device would look like then here’s what we can expect -

The iPhone 5 would feature a wide touchscreen.
The display would possible stretch out quite a bit offering a very fine bezel on either side like we had earlier reported.
Instead of a round Home key, the iPhone 5 would be equipped with a rectangular button to possibly facilitate gesture control

What? Not even going up to 4-inches?!

Why Apple would simply decide to keep the screen almost as small as the previous model has, of course, not been spoken about in official circles. It’s not going to be too long till the handset is ready for unveiling so we’ll know then for sure. So far, the word is that it’s expected to be announced on September 5th, so stay tuned.
