iOS 7 could be available to the general public on September 10

Even as rumours about the launch event for Apple’s new iPhones are pouring in, there’s a new one about iOS 7. The latest iteration of the iOS is all set to be available to general users on September 10, the same day as the rumoured iPhone launch.

This will be the first time iOS 7 will be available to all iOS users who were not involved in the development stage of testing the operating system. The launch date was leaked by a developer named Owen Williams. He received a mail from Nuance – the company behind Siri.

Release coming soon

In a mail addressed to NDEV developers, Nuance’s Mobile team wrote, “As you are probably aware, iOS7 GA will be released on September 10.” The mail essentially encouraged developers to conduct tests ensuring that their Nuance speech services continue to work seamlessly once the upgrade happens.

It is possible Apple could be looking at announcing the general release of iOS 7 along with its announcement of the iPhone 5S and the low-budget iPhone 5C . Williams points out that generally iOS is announced on iPhone day and Gold Master – the build of software ready to be delivered to customers – released within a few hours.

Essentially, if Apple is indeed eyeing the September 10 deadline for releasing iOS 7, it will have to push out Gold Master build to developers as soon as possible now. Also, if Apple is looking at a day-of release with the newest version of iOS, it will have to play its cards correctly, since this is something Apple has never tried with the iPhone before. Looks like the iPhone and iOS release is going to be a pretty historic one for Apple.
