Intel unveils Devil's Canyon along with anniversary edition unlocked Pentium processor

Computex 2014 has just got underway and Intel has started the proceedings with the official announcement of Devil’s Canyon - Intel Core i7 4790K and Intel Core i5-4690K.   First spoken about at the **Game Developer's Conference** , the Devil’s Canyon CPU announcement today gave a lot more details on the specifications front. Going forward, the Intel Core i7-4790K will replace Intel Core i7-4770K as the flagship Haswell chip. [caption id=“attachment_224776” align=“aligncenter” width=“640”] ![Intel Core i7-4790K will be the new Haswell flagship](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/devils.jpg) Intel Core i7-4790K will be the new Haswell flagship[/caption]   Both the Devil’s Canyon processors are based on the 22nm Haswell architecture. Intel Core i7-4790K is a 4-core 8-thread fully unlocked processor which is clocked at 4GHz. The 4GHz clock will be available on all the four cores. It comes with proprietary Intel technologies such as Turbo Boost 2.0, Hyper-threading, HD Graphics 4600 clocked at 1250MHz, Quick sync video and so on. The processor is made for the LGA 1150 socket and will work with the just released Z97 chipset based boards. It will also work with Z87 board which have the updated BIOS.   The Intel Core i5-4690K is a 4-core 4-thread unlocked processor clocked at 3.5GHz with the Turbo clock going to 3.9GHz. It also comes with Intel HD4600 graphics. Both the Devil’s Canyon chips have a TDP rating of 88W.   While the socket specifications are unchanged, the Core i7-4790K has improved on the packaging and thermals. There are a lot more capacitors packed onto the processor for smoother power delivery to the die. Intel has employed a Next Generation Polymer Thermal Interface Material (NGPTIM) which works with existing cooling solutions. As compared to the Sandy Bridge flagship - Intel Core i7-2700K, the Devil’s Canyon offers between 30 to 60 per cent improvement. We can only confirm these numbers after putting the Core i7-4790K through its paces.   The Intel Core i7-4790K will be priced at $339 which is approx Rs 20,100. Intel Core i5-4690K will be priced at $242 which is approx Rs 14,300. So far Pentium processors came with a locked multiplier, but the anniversary edition Pentium processor will come with an unlocked processor allowing you to overclock your Pentium system.   The G3258 is a dual-core processor and will come with Intel HD graphics with support for Quick Sync Video as well. This lets you perform tasks such as video transcoding with ease. The pricing of the Pentium G3258 is expected to be around $72 which is approx Rs 4,250.
