Intel is all set to finally launch its dual-core version of the processor, on July 18, sources close to Intel have said. The mega chip is going to be the new flagship of Intel‘s aims to break into the high end server market which is dominated by Sparc and power processors. The chip codenamed Montecito was originally to be launched in 2005. However some problems that developed at the time lead to the schedule being postponed. The highest-end Montecito will run at a top speed of 1.6GHz. Intel had planned the Montecito chips, to be called the Itanium 2 9000 series. These new processors are right in line with Intel’s current energy-conscious priority of performance per watt.
