Intel Officially Launches Sandy Bridge Processors

Intel’s second generation of Core processors, codenamed Sandy Bridge, have to be CES 2011’s worst kept secret. Thanks to manufacturers and even retailers (who’d started selling the processors early), we already know most of what Sandy Bridge had to offer. But hey, Intel kept their word and officially launched the Socket 1155 processors in their press conference at CES.

Sandy Bridging the gap

The Sandy Bridge processors, despite slotting right into the Core family of i3, i5 and i7 chipsets, are easily identifiable by their model numbers, which are all 2xxx. They feature version 2.0 of Intel’s Turbo Boost technology, which regulates clock speed and automatically overclocks your processor when you need some more juice out of it. They also feature Intel’s own WiDi 2.0 and Quick Sync Video, which makes it easier to stream HD video from your device to your PC and drastically reduces video encoding times.

Intel have launched more than 20 processors for desktops and laptops in the Socket 1155 family, which range from the mobile Core i5-2537M, which is a 1.4GHz processor, right up to the 3.4GHz Core i7-2600K. While we’ve got some idea of the price ranges from how much they cost overseas, there’s been no official word on the Indian prices. We do hope to hear from Intel soon, however.
