Intel India continues work on Digital India; announces completion of 100 'Unnati Kendras'

Extending the government’s digital India vision to the grassroots level, Intel India on Tuesday announced the completion of 100 “Unnati Kendras” (digital learning centres) across 11 states in the country. The 100 “Unnati Kendras” are on-ground facilities serving as common access digital learning centres for local citizens, with a focus on education, entrepreneurship and innovation.

“Through continued work with the government and the ecosystem, we strive to make a tangible difference to individual lives and communities through the power of the computing,” said Debjani Ghosh, Vice President, Sales and Marketing Group, and Managing Director, South Asia, Intel, in a statement.

Each centre is equipped with Intel-powered devices, vernacular language content and relevant training programs for local citizens in the state, creating opportunities for skill development and digital empowerment. Through a network of 100 “Unnati Kendras” deployed at Common Service Centres, the company has made the experience of personal computing real for more than 250,000 local citizens till date.

The highest consumer enthusiasm emerged in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Telangana. Education and e-learning were the most popular uses of the PC at these “Unnati Kendras”. According to Intel data, 44 percent of the walk-ins wanted to use computers to access e-learning and educational content, with 28 per cent aspiring to use computers for creative self-expression and 28 per cent for entrepreneurial activities.
