Chip maker Intel recently acquired system-on-a-chip (SoC) developer Silicon Hive.

A little low down on Silicon Hive – this Netherlands based company has been in the business of licensing flexible system solutions for consumer electronics. The company was initially a part of Philips Research Laboratories, which it separated from in 2007.

Silicon Hive has been since quite a while using the advice of Intel in their business decisions. The SoC developer now foresees phenomenal success with Intel by its side. They will now be concentrating now, especially with the Intel backing, on their portable device and embedded computing operations. With Intel’s support, Silicon Hive also looks forward to providing solutions for image and video processing.  They will also further their primary aim of providing more cost – effective semi – conductor solutions.

Intel, too, has been concentrating off late in expanding its services to the mobile devices too. In the wake of the same, it got into a string of mergers and acquisitions recently, the recent merger with McAfee being worth mentioning.
