Rumours of Instagram getting Vine-like video capabilities are growing stronger by the day, even as Facebook prepares for its all-important event on June 20. Reports are now suggesting that the addition of video capacity to Facebook-owned Instagram will be the only revelation the social networking giant will make at the event. The video-capability is something that sources claim Instagram has been working on for the past couple of years, reports All Things D.

Facebook’s press events this year have been causes of much excitement for both the press and the users of the social networking service. While it revealed Graph Search earlier this year, the social networking giant also went on to unveil Facebook Home, a launcher for Android. When Facebook announces an event, it sends the rumour mills working overtime. However, looking at the number of new products it has been launching, video capabilities for Instagram does not seem too far-fetched an idea.

Facebook, say sources, is facing a two-pronged problem right now. It is striving hard to make sure Instagram’s video capabilities are perceived differently than the very popular Vine’s. Facebook is also trying to make sure that the feature is not termed copy-cat, quite like the dud Poke service it launched that was branded as a rip off of the widely used SnapChat.

Meanwhile, Vine has blogged a small thank you post that also teases a few new features the service aims to add to its apps in the near future. “We just want to say thank you,” wrote the team in the post. “Since launching Vine less than five months ago, we’ve watched the most incredible community sprout up, and we’ve been inspired every moment along the way.”

Over the next few weeks, the team says that it will be introducing some “exciting new parts” of Vine, presumably to combat Instagram’s possible foray into the world of short videos.
