Instagram has updated its Android and iOS mobile app with two new features: Caption editing and a People tab. The update is already available for download on the Google Play Store and the Apple App store .

Caption editing lets you go back and edit the captions on your photos and you can also edit the location. While Instagram says that this was one of the most requested feature, it seems like a no-brainer that this feature should have been on Instagram from the start. But then, better late than never. There have been many instances when one has had to delete the picture and re-post it, thanks to a glaring typo or not having added enough hashtags. The other way people tackled this issue was to add a comment to their own photo with the corrected caption or more hashtags.

You can now edit captions to your photos

You will now get a new Edit option in the options which lets you Delete and Share the image. After editing the caption, you can hit Done and the edited caption will be seen with the photograph. Please note that the word Edited will appear over the modified captions when one taps the comments expansion.

The other major feature that has been tweaked is the Explore page. Instead of the regular Explore symbol, you will now see a magnifying glass logo there. The Explore page is divided into two main tabs, Photos and People. The Photos page is similar to the one we already know, comprising a grid of images which can be scrolled through. The People tab, lets you connect with interesting Instagram accounts, quite similar to the people to follow suggestions one sees on Twitter. Instagram, in an earlier update, presented you with three additional ‘people to follow’ when you added someone to your list.

While these updates are certainly good, they are not ground-breaking. Let us see if this leads to a spike in Instagram’s user base.
