Instagram has revamped its desktop site to resemble a web feed, which enables you to access your profile on the desktop in a fashion similar to the mobile Instagram app. Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom stated in a post that the move is in line with their endeavour to “make the service accessible to their growing desktop web community.” However, you still can’t post or add photos to Instagram via the web feed; you’ll only be able to view photos and pages, “like” them or post comments.
It seems the web feed works much like it does on mobile phones—users can browse through the latest images uploaded by people they’re following and the feed will update as and when new photos come in.
Experience comes to the web
The feed allows you to “Like” photos by double-clicking on them or by pressing the Like button, and there’s an inline commenting feature that lets you comment on photos. You can also shrink your browser down to a single column to have a single column feed (a lot like the feed on the mobile app). “Simply put, we’ve brought a simple, powerful, and beautiful Instagram browsing experience to the web,” Systrom adds.
The past year ended rather tumultuously for Instagram with things going awry after its updated Privacy Policy and Terms of Use Agreement surfaced. The company quickly apologised to its users about the ‘confusion’ caused with regard to the language in its legal terms, which would have allowed the photo sharing service to sell users’ photos or use them in advertisements without consent from the users.
Systrom was quick to clear the air, saying that Instagram had no intentions of selling user-generated content or to allow photos to be used in advertisements. “To be clear: it is not our intention to sell your photos. We are working on updated language in the terms to make sure this is clear,” he wrote in a blog post.
