inFamous and Killzone to make a comeback on PlayStation 4

After unveiling the PlayStation 4, Sony has also revealed some of the games that the console will launch with. It looks like two of the PlayStation’s flagship games will be making a comeback after a hiatus; Sony has announced new Killzone and inFamous games. You can check out the trailers below.

While the 7-minute gameplay video of Killzone: Shadow Fall does look impressive by PlayStation standards, the developers don’t seem to be pushing any envelopes. It looks like a game that would run decently on any high-end PC, which was not the case with the last console generation, where the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 were ahead of the PC, and PCs had to play a game of catch up for six months to get to those levels of graphical fidelity.

inFamous seems to be taking a darker turn in terms of story compared to the other two games. While they were dark and gritty, this one looks like a straight out dystopian world that wouldn’t look out of place in Watchmen. As is obvious from the previous games in the series, Cole will not be returning as the main protagonist of inFamous: Second Son. It looks like this time around, we will get to explore powers based around the other primal elements – namely, fire – as opposed to Cole’s lightning powers.

Sony had announced the PlayStation 4 earlier this morning at an event in New York. The company has confirmed that an AMD-based x86 processor will be powering the console. It will have 8GB of unified high-speed memory and a “massive” hard drive. The new controller, dubbed the DualShock 4, also seems to be the same one which we saw earlier this month. It will have a touch pad that will have a share button, a headphone jack and a light bar to identify players. The light bar also works much like the Move sensor through a 3D camera.

The next Killzone will look much better than this

Sony then showed off some videos of Unreal Engine 4 running on the PlayStation 4, where you can look around the world using the touch pad. Sony has announced that with its next-gen console, it will allow developers greater freedom. It will let developers explore new business models. This could mean an emergence of free-to-play titles on consoles.

The console will also feature some new quality-of-life changes. The console is said to have a low power-state and auto saves games. You don’t have to wait for the game to load the next time you’re switching on the console. According to the company, the console can also download games in the background, even when the system is powered off. Games can also be played while they’re being downloaded.

The Share button on the controller will let you upload any video you from your console quickly to video services. According to the company, “Our goal is to make sharing of video as popular in PS4 as screenshots are today.” Videos are automatically uploaded while you play a game.

Taking a page out of Microsoft’s Xbox Smartglass, it looks like the PlayStation 4 will have some integration with smartphones and tablets as well. Presumably, apps will let you access the social aspect of PlayStation Network.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
