The news comes from 9to5mac that happened to have a source present at the event which also shared many other details, including Apple's plan to build more Android apps! It was towards the end of the townhall that Tim Cook answered questions related to India and other emerging markets.

Cook called the iPhone the "greatest business of the future" indicating that Apple has plenty of time until it can start worrying about the slow death of its hero product. Coming to India, Cook commented that 4G LTE networks are not always available in an emerging market, which why India makes for a great opportunity for Apple to sell it products.

Tim Cook also mentioned that Apple is preparing to bring its own Apple retail stores in the country as well. Among other things, the Apple CEO also mentioned that it is simply testing the waters with its Apple Music for Android app, indicating that more apps and services like iCloud could be headed to Android.
