In a first, AMC's tech drama Halt and Catch Fire premieres on Tumblr

The AMC television network says it is using the blogging platform Tumblr to premiere its new series about the early days of personal computing.

The series, "Halt and Catch Fire," began as a sneak preview on Monday on Tumblr. Set in the 1980s, it will air the first time on AMC on June 1. "It's a perfect show for summer and — given the subject matter — a good fit for Tumblr's first TV series premiere and AMC's first social media screening," said AMC president Charlie Collier in a statement.

AMC also launched an official network page on Tumblr that will be integrated through the company's website AMC.com. It's been looked at as a way for the popular network to utilise the meme-driven, pop culture-heavy Tumblr platform. The premiere will go on till May 31

The show revolves around the early days of personal computing. Halt and Catch Fire is about three individuals who team up to try and build a computer that will change the future.," according to its website. The show's writers Christopher Cantwell and Christopher Rogers have set the show to take place in Texas in 1983, set roughly one year after IBM corners the market with the release of its first major product. It focusses on lead characters Lee Pace and Scoot McNairy who team up in an attempt to reverse engineer the IBM PC and change the industry forever.

In recent weeks, AMC has been holding screenings of the new show at technology companies, including Apple, Twitter, Google, Dropbox and, on Monday, Tumblr. The series will run for 10 weeks on AMC, which has produced shows such as Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead.
