imo IM App allows free voice calls on iPhone

Popular instant messaging aggregator app imo.im now has an update to its iOS version. The application now enables free VoIP calling on iPhones running iOS version 3.1 or higher. Free voice calling over Wi-Fi and mobile data connections is already present for Android devices running the app.

An official announcement by imo.im states that the instant messaging client currently connects users to 11 third-party messaging services. iOS device users can now make voice calls to contacts using the app through Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G Internet connections. imo.im’s free voice calling eliminates the cost of mobile minutes, without any loss in the quality of the connection, and when the handset is connected to Wi-Fi, requires no data usage.

iPhone users running iOS version 3.1 or higher can make voice calls in addition to connecting to various instant messaging services such as Facebook, AIM and Skype by downloading the update of the imo app through the Apple App Store.

The statement released by imo states, “imo.im has emerged as a top instant messaging client, with more than 4 million mobile downloads and 700,000 daily users delivering an average of 50 million messages per day. imo supports private chat conversations and group chats and provides the ability to share multimedia files, send voice IMs and conduct quick chat history searches. Concurrent sessions allow users to continue conversations even while switching devices, such as from desktop to mobile and even between mobile platforms”.

Imo.im supports a range of services including Facebook Chat, Google Talk, Skype, MSN, ICQ/AIM, Yahoo, Jabber, Hyves, VKontakte, Myspace and Steam.

Though this is a great feature and a major convenience to those who are already on imo.im, this feature is by no means new and is already present on rival services such as Viber and Nimbizz. These two services have had the ability to make voice calls from quite a while now.
