In the aftermath of Quickmeme being outlawed from Reddit, there has been a severe lack of good meme generators that can be used to create content for the social site. Even while Livememe and Memedad are trying hard to be able replacements for Quickmeme, Imgur has added meme abilities to its service.
Imgur has always been the go-to service when comes to hosting images for Reddit posts. The meme-making ability had been sorely missed by Reddit users for a long time now and had been a much-requested feature. The meme generator was apparently in works by the service for months, but with Quickmeme out of the Reddit system, Imgur’s engineers worked overtime to add memes to the bouquet of features offered by the service.
Kiss your productivity goodbye
“Our community made it clear that this had to be done as quickly as possible, so we committed to doing whatever it took,” Founder and CEO of Imgur, Alan Schaaf said. “This was no small task – our engineering team rocked it.”
The service now has a “make a meme” button on the website, placed right below the “upload images” option. You can choose a default meme from a drop-down menu and add text to it to create a meme. It’s as simple as that. The service has a much more simplified process than most other meme generators. Of course, if you’re the type of person who would rather make memes out of you own pictures, you can upload your own background image and get to work by turning yourself into a meme.
“In the past, memes have been created elsewhere on the Internet, then uploaded to Imgur for storage or sharing,” wrote the service in a post announcing the launch of the meme generator. “By adding content creation tools to Imgur, we aim to simplify this process.”
The service also has an option to simply browse the meme gallery on the Imgur website itself. Think of it as r/AdviceAnimals, but with more images. Brace yourselves then, Imgur memes are coming!
