Imation to Manufacture Blu-ray and HD-DVD

One of the most talked about topics in tech circles right now is the rapidly escalating war between the two next generation formats namely HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. With quite a few majors taking diametrically opposite views on support of the two technologies (HD-DVD is backed by Toshiba, NEC, Intel and Microsoft where as Blu-Ray, a format created by Sony has support from Philips, Dell and Apple Computer) it is not clear who will emerge as the eventual winner. This war is similar to the Betamax and VHS wars of the 1980s. While that war was won by VHS hands down no one is sure who will emerge as the dominant standard here, therefore Imation one of the leaders in the optical manufacturing market has decided to be cautious and manufacture both storage formats. This makes a lot of sense commercially as by having its fingers in both pies Imation is hedging its bets as to who will emerge the winner. Considering that both can store Hi-Def video and tones of data Imation are sure playing it safe. Blu-Ray & HD DVD_t.jpg
