IFA 2011: Toshiba announces Protege Z830 Ultrabook

There’s lots to see at IFA 2011 and it’s not just tablets and phones. Toshiba has announced their new Protege Z830 Ultrabook. The new ultrabooks are based on Intel’s Sandy Bridge line of processors. One of the key characteristics of the new notebooks is that they are almost 40 percent lighter and 20 percent thinner than existing models. The Protege Z830 would be the first Ultrabooks to be launched by Toshiba. Intel recently introduced the concept of Ultrabooks, which they claim would offer good performance along with light-weight, slim design and affordable pricing. 

One of the first Ultrabooks to be announced

Toshiba hasn’t announced the products for Indian markets yet, but they have set a starting price of $1,000 (roughly Rs. 45,000). The light-weight design is achieved by using a 128GB solid state drive in place of the traditionally used hard drive. The chassis is made of a magnesium alloy along with a rigid structure that should offer a sturdy notebook despite its low weight and slim design. The Z830 will also include an LED backlit, spill-resistant keyboard. Toshiba claims that the use of Waves Audio speakers will enhance audio performance while listening to music, watching movies and playing games. Toshiba is just one of the notebook vendors to launch Ultrabooks. In the days to come, we should hear from many others.
