There are divided opinions on whether or not to upgrade to iOS 8.4. But is it really something you want to do? Broadly put, there are about four updates in iOS 8.4. The biggest of them all is Apple Music . Sure, those who can’t live without music would and must go for it. But for the rest of them, the update may not make sense.
In addition to Apple Music, here are the key updates in iOS 8.4:
iBooks updated
There has been an update to the iBooks app. However, if News is what you’re eagerly waiting for, you’re better off waiting for iOS 9. News would replace Newstands and Wallet would be replaced by Passbook in iOS 9.
According to a report by TheNextWeb , “You can now browse, download and listen to audiobooks from iBooks, and play them from a refreshed Now Playing feature designed just for audiobooks.”
Text rebooting bug
As odd as it may sound, a text message could crash your iPhone. A specific combination of certain words and Arabic characters used to cause iPhones to reboot. The message posted by 9to5mac is posted below:
With iOS 8.4, Apple has resolved this bug.
Apple Watch bug
A bug in the Apple Watch caused apps that have been uninstalled to get reinstalled when the iPhone app gets an update. App updates were getting pushed to the Apple Watch whenever the app got an update.
Apple Music
This is the big one. Music streaming, Free trial for 3 months, is a good step. If you love music, this might just be the reason for you to upgrade to iOS 8.4, despite a few glitches.
Problems with iOS 8.4
This sounds more like a price you pay to enjoy some good music. Would you prefer the ability to stream some music, or better battery? Users who have updated the OS on their iPhones to iOS 8.4 have been complaining of a drastic power drain since updating their device OS. Wall Street Journal Technology Columnist, Geoffrey Fowler, tweeted out that his iPhone drained to 38% in 1.5 hours.
It’s common for device manufacturers, and Apple is no different, to resolve bugs such as battery drain in future software updates.
