Idea to launch 3G services on its own network in Delhi by April: Report

Idea is planning to launch 3G services in Delhi on its own network. Citing top company executive, an Economics Times report reveals that Idea plans to launch 3G services in Delhi on its own network in April, making it the first network to use the more efficient 900Mhz band. It should be noted that the Aditya Birla Group, which owns Idea Cellular, had won 5MHz band in Delhi for Rs 3,704.8 crore in February 2014. Idea has 3G services in just 11 circles, and in other areas, it provides 3G speeds to its subscribers by teaming up with Vodafone and Airtel. In Delhi, it currently provides 2G, and now is upgrading its network to provide 3G as well. “In the next financial year, the marketing theme is going to be the same because we feel that millions of people in India still need to come online. We will take different nuances of people such as how they use data, what they use and then try to enhance that and make people come and adopt internet services through our marketing initiatives,” Sashi Shankar, chief marketing officer at Idea Cellular told the news site.

He also spoke about Idea’s new marketing initiatives. Along with network coverage, speed and customer service will also get a facelift. As mobile Internet is becoming one of the prime requisites for smartphone owners, Idea would not want to lose out on this key revenue stream any more.

Idea has also teamed up with Microsoft  to introduce operator-billing on the Windows Store for Idea subscribers.
