ICS update for HTC Incredible S users in India

Earlier this month, HTC released the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update for the HTC Sensation XE, and now it is being rolled out for Incredible S users in India. HTC has announced to bring the Ice Cream Sandwich update to its 16 devices in India, and the list includes both Sensation XE and Incredible S. The Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update is available as an Over The Air (OTA) update for the Incredible S and is said to be 250 MB in size. Those Incredible S users who haven’t received a notification for the update can manually update it by navigating to ‘Software Update’ under ‘About Phone’ in the ‘Settings’ app. The HTC Incredible S was launched in India early last year, running on Android Froyo. After two months, it received the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update.

It is here after all

ICS update, finally

This list of HTC devices to get the update also featured the HTC Desire HD, which is now reported to be a big disappointment to those who had been looking forward to this development. It has been revealed that HTC’s Desire HD smartphone will not get the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade. We had got our hands on the HTC Incredible S last year, and the verdict in our review states that that, “I can highlight just one issue with the HTC Incredible S and that’s the absence of HDMI and TV Out. At this price (it was priced around Rs. 28,000 during its launch and today is available for about Rs. 20,000), HTC should have considered including it over and above DLNA. Other than that, the handset is loaded to the hilt with all kinds of useful and very relevant functionality, all packed away into a very appealing shell. But the lack of video out could be deal breaker for some. If you can get passed it, the Incredible S is a superb handset and defiantly worth the money”. Click here to read our complete review.

Here’s quick loot at the specs of the HTC Incredible S:

  • 4-inch S-LCD Capacitive Touchscreen
  • 3G, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, DLNA
  • Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and EDR
  • 8 MP camera with autofocus and dual LED flash
  • 1.3 MP secondary camera
  • Stereo FM radio with RDS
  • 1GB internal memory expandable upto 32GB

The list of HTC devices to get the update as reported earlier include  HTC’s Sensation, Sensation XE, Sensation XL, Desire S, Desire HD, Evo 3D, Incredible S, and the women-centric Rhyme. The Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system was launched last year, and faced flak for not making it to many handsets. As you can see, ICS updates are now slowly rolling out, but Android has already launched its next and newest version.
