ICGC 2011 kicks off today

Tech2’s in (not so) sunny Goa to cover the Indian Cyber Gaming Championship (ICGC 2011) that kicks off today. Over 500 gamers from all over India have gathered at the Palmarinha Resort to display their gaming skills for a shot at the big league, and of course bragging rights. Yogesh Nagdev, managing director of Re-Inforcement who’s been doing ICGC since the past three years along with other events is thrilled with the turnout. He assures us that this isn’t some sort of free for all event where you have drunk gamers running around the place with reckless abandon. It’s a professional setup over here where everyone has to verify their age and adhere to certain rules of conduct.

The ICGC works as a qualifying tournament as well, where certain winners will get to represent India in both Singapore via the TGX (The Gaming Xpo) 2011 and Paris’ ESWC (Electronic Sports World Cup). In Singapore they’ll battle it out with the best in StarCraft II and DoTA (Defense of the Ancients) while in Paris they’ll get their skills tested in both StarCraft II as well as Trackmania Nations.

Winners of other games like Counter Strike and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will get some sort of a goodie bag courtesy of the plethora of sponsors like NVIDIA, Cooler Master, Games: The Shop, LG and lots more.
