More launches from Mobile Asia 2006 - this time it’s popular Smartphone brand i-mate launching its new JAQ and SPL models in India.
The i-mate JAQ is a quad-band, Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC Edition powered Smartphone supports GPRS and EDGE connectivity, as well as Bluetooth and miniUSB. It has a a 2.8” wide aspect, 320x240 (QVGA) screen, a full QWERTY keypad, handwriting recognition, 128MB of ROM and 64MB of usable RAM along with a miniSD memory card slot. It plays back MP3/AAC/WMA files and comes with Pocket Office and Pocket Internet Explorer pre-loaded. The business phone does not have a camera. The i-mate JAQ reportedly costs Rs. 22,500, but at the event, it was being sold for around Rs. 2,000 less.
The other phone launched was the i-mate SPL, a slim, SLVR-like candybar form factor handset that runs Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone Edition. The SPL is more multimedia oriented with a 2-megapixel digital camera and MP3/AAC/WMA player. The 240x320 screen is 2.2 inches in size. The phone also has 128MB of ROM and 64MB of RAM along with a miniSD memory card slot. It has Bluetooth/miniUSB connectivity, and GPRS but no EDGE support. The SPL will retail around Rs. 15,000.
