Hyperlapse from Instagram comes to iPhones, iPads: Here's how it works

Have you ever been mesmerised by time-lapse pictures on the big screen? You don't have to be a seasoned videographer for the same effect- the Hyperlapse app from Instagram lets you replicate this with your smartphone camera.

Using the app is as simple as recording a video with your phone. The app opens straight with the camera and all you need to do is tap on the record button twice to start recording. If you are recording in dim conditions, the app tells you that there isn't enough light to get a good video (though you can proceed with the recording anyway). If the conditions are right, the resulting video will look something like this

Once you've recorded a video, you can choose the speed at which it should play. The app claims that the app uses built-in stabilisation technology. In our test shots, we found that it does a great job at minimising blurry images due to shaky hands. This video by Instagram explains the difference.

You can share videos on Instagram and Facebook directly from the app, while you can share it on YouTube, Vimeo or email from the Camera Roll. As of now, Hyperlapse from Instagram is currently available for free only for iOS devices, so Android users will have to wait to be able to use this feature.
