Huawei India launched its much awaited, camera-centric smartphone called the Huawei P9 today. Priced at Rs 39,999, the handset packs in a dual-lens rear camera to deliver professional-looking photographs. It will go on sale on Flipkart at 3:00PM on 17 August. First announced at an event in London, the P9 is the smaller sibling to the P9 Plus, which was also announced internationally. However, Huawei did not unveil the bigger Plus model in India. The smartphone features an all-metal construction with a focus on the camera module which has been co-engineered with the German lens and camera specialist, Leica. Of the two 12MP cameras on the back, one camera sensor captures colour information and the other sensor captures images only in monochrome, offering images in grayscale. This is similar to what we had seen on the QiKU Q Terra 808 . However, the P9 with its dual cameras, hybrid AF system (laser + PDAF) does lack optical image stabilisation (OIS). The smartphone is powered by Huawei’s own HiSilicon Kirin 955, which is a refined variant of the 950. It features an octa-core processor with one quad-core Cortex A72 cluster clocked at 2.5GHz and another Cortex A53 quad-core cluster clocked at 1.8GHz. The chipset is paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded using a microSD card slot. Huawei packs in a 3,000mAh battery along with a fingerprint reader on the back and a USB Type-C port at the bottom. The smartphone will be available in Titanium Grey, Mystic Silver and Prestige Gold finishes. Huawei promises a 2 year warranty along with a Pickup-and-Drop facility as a part of its VIP service. At its event, Huawei also announced a stainless steel version of the Android Wear-powered Huawei Watch priced at Rs 22,999 and it too goes on sale today at 3:00PM on Flipkart. Along with the watch, Huawei also announced its MateBook which is scheduled for launch later this year.
