Huawei outs mid-range Ascend G600 and G330

Huawei has launched two mid-range ICS-toting devices – the Huawei Ascend G600 and Ascend G330. Huawei has always had a presence in the lower-end and mid-tier smartphone markets. With the Ascend G600, the company has a solid mid-range handset with decent specs. It is clearly the higher-end model. For starters, it has an 8MP BSI auto focus camera and dual DTS SRS speakers.

It is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm 1.2GHz processor and has a 4.5-inch qHD display with 960 x 540 resolution. It has a 1930mAh Li-Polymer battery, which should keep it powered through the day and which Huawei claims provides more than 15 days of standby time. Unfortunately, the phone launches with Ice Cream Sandwich, when competition is already releasing phones with the Jelly Bean version of Android.

However, the G600 does have Gorilla glass protection to keep the front panel relatively scratch-free. The device has a host of connectivity and file sharing options with Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth, Micro USB 2.0 and DLNA, besides the usual goodies that Android brings to the table. Its 768MB RAM should complement the processor well. The 4GB of storage can be expanded thanks to the MicroSD card slot.

If that doesn’t get your attention, the price should. At Rs 14,990, the Huawei Ascend G600 will be competing with the likes of the A116 Canvas HD and Sony’s mid-range line-up.

The Huawei Ascend G330 also has modest specs, but isn’t priced accordingly. It also launches with Android 4.0 and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core CPU. It has a 4-inch IPS screen of WVGA resolution with five-point multi-touch capacitive display. A 5MP camera graces the back while a VGA camera is on the front. One good thing about the G330 is the inclusion of pre-loaded enterprise apps that are bundled with the phone. It also offers seven Indian language packs for Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati and Punjabi. However, the 1500mAh battery is a disappointment. We would have liked to see Huawei push the envelope a little when it came to the battery. Besides, its price tag of Rs 11,490 is certainly higher than other phones in the same specs bracket.

The Huawei press release did mention that the phones are available at online and brick-and-mortar store.

Once again, Huawei has decided to make a splash in the mid-range pool. Unfortunately, there is no word on its flagship phones that were announced at CES. The Huawei Ascend Mate is certain to stand out with its 6.1-inch IPS+ display and 8MP camera, but the Huawei Ascend D2 trumps it with a 5-inch 1080p display and a 13MP sensor on the back. Both phones have quad-core processors.
