After reporting that its third-quarter global smartphone shipments had jumped by 63 percent year on year, Huawei is gearing up towards affirming its prominence in the global smartphone market.
According to recent reports in the Chinese media, Huawei has hired former Apple Creative Director Abigail Brody. Brody will now be Chief User Experience Designer at Huawei.
According to CNBC, a translation of the statement said, "Based on our plan, Huawei is going to set up a user experience design studio in the U.S., tracking and leading pioneering design concepts in the industry, working with China's domestic design teams to provide the best user experience of Huawei's ultimate products."
This year, Huawei also manufactures the flagship Google Nexus 6P, while the Nexus 5X continues to be manufactured by LG Electronics.
A recent report says Huawei is set to be the fastest-growing major smartphone vendor this year according to analysts.
The upbeat view came after Huawei, the world’s third-biggest smartphone supplier by volume, on Tuesday said third-quarter global smartphone shipments jumped 63 percent year-on-year to 27.4 million handsets. Higher-end device sales also grew, a key target for Huawei as it seeks to shed its budget supplier image.
The July-September numbers puts Huawei on course to move 100 million smartphones this year, 33 percent more than in 2014. That would mean it outpacing growth forecast for major rivals such as Apple, Xiaomi Inc and Lenovo Group Ltd, analysts said.
