In October, Huawei announced the Ascend D2, a smartphone with a 5-inch HD display, which is touted as the major feature of the handset. At the time of the announcement, there was very little to go by in terms of specifications and Huawei did not divulge much information regarding the same. A benchmark has recently appeared online which adds a bit more information to the upcoming handset from Huawei.

Through the GLBenchmark we can see that the handset will run on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean out of the box. Through the System tab on the benchmark we can see that the handset will feature a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and a 5-inch screen with a resolution 1800 x1080 with navigation buttons. The actual resolution of the device is 1920 x 1080 pixels.

As of now, there is no certainty of what processor will be used on this device but based on the fact that Huawei have used the K3V chip on the Ascend D Quad, it is likely they will use something similar on this high end handset. The GLBenchmark also reveals that the GPU is manufactured by Hisilicon Technologies.

The Huawei Ascend sports a 13MP rear camera while the 1.3MP camera found in the front can be used for video calling. The handset features a 3,000mAh battery that should keep the handset charged for a significant amount of time.

As of now, there is no word on the global availability of this handset but it is expected to be launched in China in early 2013.

Huawei, in recent times have been known to introduce handsets with good specifications however, the brand does have a track record of delaying the launch of its handsets.

Earlier this year, prior to the launch of the latest Windows Phone platform, Windows Phone 8, it was believed that Huawei would showcase its line up of smartphones running on this platform. However, the same has not materialized and now it is believed that Huawei’s Windows Phone 8 handsets will be announced early next year at the Consumer Electronics Show.

The market is seemingly going to be populated with a number of handsets boasting Full HD displays and the HTC Droid DNA has already been launched for the US. The global variant of this 5-inch HTC smartphone, the HTC Deluxe is expected to make its appearance at the CES 2013 event.

Also at the event, Samsung may showcase the Galaxy S IV which is believed to boast the same feature, a 4.99-inch screen with a 1080p display. Apart from the above mentioned brands, the LG Optimus G2 is also believed to be announced at approximately the same time and this handset too is expected to feature this Full HD capabilities.

If Huawei aims to be competitive in the market, apart from pricing the handset competitively, the brand needs to launch it in a timely manner so that it reaches consumers before the competition offer its devices.

Stay tuned to know more about this offering from Huawei.
