There have been several reports hinting Google is all set to ditch the Nexus brand for a new premium Android Silver range of devices. While the fate of the alleged Nexus 6 smartphone is still dangling, a new Nexus tablet has now been spotted on the Internet
A report by Android Police says Google could be working with HTC on a new long-rumoured 8.9-inch tablet codenamed Volantis or Flounder, and internally referred to as Nexus 9. Along with a leaked image, the site has also given a sneak peek into the supposed specs, features, and pricing.
The report almost confirms the device and claims that it has been hearing about the Volantis from multiple sources since Q1 2014. The tablet could sport a 8.9-inch display with 2048 x 1440 pixels of resolution, with pixel density up to 281ppi, if the specs are true. The Nexus 9 is expected to be powered by Nvidia Logan 64-bit processor, better known as Tegra K1, coupled with 2GB RAM. The specs sheet also includes 16/32GB storage, 8MP OIS main camera, 3MP front facing camera, aluminium zero-gap construction and stereo front-facing speakers.
It could tip the scale at 418 grams or 427 grams with LTE, and measure 8.91 x 5.98 x 0.31 inches. However, the leaked image and the specs don't quite match. The device in the image doesn't look to be made out of aluminium. So, it is possible that the device image could be an early mockup. However, for now, lets take it with a pinch of salt.
Talking about the pricing, the report further claims that the tablet is expected to come at a starting price of $399 (approx Rs 24,000) for the 16GB version and the 32GB variant will cost $499 (approximately Rs 30,000) . The LTE-enabled variant of the tablet would be made available at an additional cost and the report suggests a price slightly over $600.
