Indeed, HTC has indeed risen from the ashes! HTC's newest flagship, the squeeze-happy HTC U11 has come out on top of AnTuTu's global smartphones chart. The smartphone chart which lists almost every single smartphone out there (save for the OnePlus 5) covers the month of May, 2017 and it comes with some interesting insights.
So why is the OnePlus 5 not on this list? Well, that is because the OnePlus 5 was not launched in May. However, we do have the scores from our review unit and they stand just a notch below the Apple iPhone 7 Plus and in line with Xiaomi Mi 6. The OnePlus 5's 1,72,187 points (8 GB RAM variant) still falls short of the HTC U11 that in India features 6 GB of RAM (128 internal storage) and the mighty Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset.
A point to note here is that HTC U11 was the top performing smartphone across platforms (Android, iOS) and even came out on top on the Android charts. This is indeed an accomplishment for a flagship offering that was always one step behind of the competition in recent years.
Meanwhile in iPhoneland, the iPhone 7 Plus topped the charts, defeating the iPad Pro (9.7-inch) and the iPhone 7 as well. Again the chart missed out on the might A10X Fusion chipset announced with the new iPad Pro models, which should literally thrash the competition when it comes to benchmarks with its 10nm manufacturing process and its mighty Fusion CPU core pairs, that are up from 2 on the A10 and A9X to a triple core set up.
Surprisingly the HTC U11 also defeated our second favourite, the Samsung Galaxy S8+ that comes in at number 3 on the Android chart, just below the Xiaomi Mi 6. Things get worse for the Galaxy siblings as they have dropped to fourth and fifth place on the overall smartphone performance ranking.
