HTC One will be delayed by a month outside the UK, Germany and Taiwan

The HTC One, we had heard this before, has been delayed due to a problem with procuring the components for the Ultrapixel camera modules. One anonymous HTC executive went so far as to say that makers and suppliers of components no longer regard HTC as a Tier-1 manufacturer, which is affecting the clout of the Taiwanese company in the market. However, we haven’t received an official statement regarding the delay in the market release of the HTC One.

But in an official statement, the Taiwanese company has now announced that the HTC One will be delayed by up to a month. The HTC One will arrive on time in the United Kingdom, Germany and Taiwan, but elsewhere the latest HTC flagship will be delayed. The three countries will be getting the HTC One next week.

An all new design for HTC

Much-awaited, but delayed

HTC has promised to bring the One to rest of Europe, North America and most of the Asia-Pacific countries before the end of April, however. This also means that the Galaxy S4 could beat the HTC One out of the door in many countries, despite the latter being launched much before the Samsung flagship.

Here is the official statement from HTC: “HTC has seen unprecedented demand for and interest in the new HTC One, and the care taken to design and build it is evidenced in early reviews. The new HTC One will roll out in the UK, Germany and Taiwan next week and across Europe, North America and most of Asia-Pacific before the end of April. We appreciate our customers’ patience, and believe that once they have the phone in their hands they will agree that it has been worth the wait.”

While a month of delay won’t make a huge difference for HTC loyalists, it could be a blow for the company’s hopes of attracting more fans, who will have the lure of the Samsung Galaxy S4 when the HTC One rolls out in their markets. During the announcement of the One, the company had said that the handset would be the first HTC phone to have a simultaneous global launch in 155 countries.

Pressure from Samsung flagships is not new territory for HTC, even though the company would have hoped to avoid it this time around. In 2012, the HTC One X was soon followed by the Galaxy S3 in the market and the Samsung flagship ended up as the highest-selling Android phone of the year. This year, HTC had taken meticulous care to prepare a top-of-the-line handset with world-beating specs and even had a clear window to properly showcase the One. However, this delay has put a dent in the company’s plans, despite the hardware prowess of the HTC One.

The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 600 SoC, which has four Krait cores clocked at 1.7GHz each. The GPU is an Adreno 320 unit and there’s a healthy 2GB of RAM.

Here are some of the key specifications of the HTC One:

  • 4.7-inch LCD display with 1080p resolution
  • HSPA+; LTE, Cat3, GPRS/EDGE
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/ac/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot
  • GPS with A-GPS support and GLONASS
  • Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP
  • NFC
  • HTC UltraPixel camera with autofocus, 2.1 megapixel front camera
  • 32 or 64GB internal memory

Take a look at our initial impressions of the HTC One here.
