HTC One Mini 2 officially unveiled: Moto G-like specs, One M8-like metal body

HTC has announced the much-awaited HTC One Mini 2 and this time around, it’s closer to the design of elder sibling One M8, than last year’s One Mini was to the M7. The One Mini 2 has a 4.5-inch display 720p display, like the Moto G, and has scaled down internal specs as compared to the One M8. This was expected, as HTC went the same route last year. It’s a shame that we don’t get the same Snapdragon 801 processor seen on the One M8 or even a Snapdragon 800 a la the Xperia Z1 compact , but the One Mini 2 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and 1GB of RAM.

Once again, that’s just like the Moto G, but something tells us HTC’s price will be a lot more than the Moto G.

One of the reasons is that the smaller One M8 is nearly a spitting image of the bigger phone. It has the same brushed metal finish and the phone looks to be made out of aluminium. It’s only got one camera on the back, though and it’s a 13-megapixel unit. Sadly, HTC has left out Zoe from the camera software. The front-facing camera is the same 5-megapixel unit as the M8.

Very much like the One M8

The One Mini 2 will support LTE, however, it doesn’t have support for the India LTE band. It gets Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS as basic connectivity features. The One Mini 2’s micro USB port can be used to connect to pen drives on the go. HTC’s signature BoomSound speakers make a reappearance.

The phone is running Android 4.4.2 with Sense 6 and will be available in dark gray, silver and gold starting with Europe, the Middle East and Asia in June.
